What is technology and how it has made our life comfortable and worse, If we glance at a time when we didn’t have any source of technology our life was simple and natural but since when we entered the world of technology it has changed our lives like everything has become so easy for us at one glance we can do everything that was not possible at past so welcome to the twenty-first century to the century of technology.
What is Technology and How it has Made our Life Comfortable and Worse
So what is technology? And what we do know so far is that it is to manipulate the natural world around us in a way that creates a world that is easier more convenient more functional for our world. So what is technology from a more specific? Scientific perspective technology is comprised of the products and processes created by engineers to meet our needs and once.
Well, that’s a bit of a fancy way to say we use the world around us. So really people have to need it people have to want it in order for technology to happen so how is technology different from science. Well, science is the study of our natural world. It deals with what is when we study science we look at in different subject areas. Like earth, science, biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, meteorology and others.
But technology is the study of the human-made world. it deals with what can be what can we do with our natural world around us to create things that we desire things can make our lives easier with nature surrounding us. So how does technology address human needs and wants them well just like science?
When we study technology, we look at different categories in technology. We have all of these things you see on this slide and these forms of technology. It will be discussed throughout this presentation worth more in-depth the first thing is information technology.
Information technology allows us to send signals around the world and of course now more than ever with the internet and in global technology devices that we have today. But also we still have television, we have a satellite, we have GPS systems, cell phones, information technologies. The process of gathering and storing data to be used in various forms all of these various forms. It provides access to a vast source of information and it allows us to produce more accurate forms of communication.
It includes many resource choices and it enables us to retrieve data in seconds the impacts of information technology. Well, I’m going to provide for you. I’ll slide for each type of technology that will give you a positive impact and a negative impact. For example here one positive impact of the Internet is that information is stored for easy access. Anything that any information that’s put up on the internet you can retrieve.
So that’s why we are now in the Information Age of technology. But a possible negative impact of the Internet is that it’s harder to distinguish between reliable and unreliable resources. For instance, if I wanted to own our marshal ticket website and in a very formal and looking like a reliable way.
I could have a page that states that an in-depth study has occurred that has resulted in showing society. So that any teacher who earns over a hundred thousand dollars has been found to produce results in the classroom. So that far exceeds teachers that earn under forty thousand dollars a year for instance. Well it’s hogwash right I’m completely making it up but I want society to believe that well it’s not reliable information. There wasn’t really a study so you need to really be a critic when you’re surfing the internet and make sure that your sources are Abell
If you look at your worksheet you’re going to notice that you have each of the technologies. I’m going to talk about and you have a place to list three examples of that technology and you are to include positive and negative impacts of each of your examples. So you may use my example as your first one but then I’d like you to come up with two of your own communication technology.
The Impacts of Communication
Here we have many examples of communication technology but it’s basically giving or exchanging information. So your examples on the slide magazines DVDs, photography, video games all of these provide streamlined publishing techniques. Which allow us to provide more accurate drawings like your 3d inventor software program. That you’re going to use makes them very sophisticated 3d modeling figures that help you to convey your message instead of just trying to draw it.
It also includes a variety of entertainment choices as you see here the DVDs video games even magazines. So you can consider entertainment as well as photography and it enables us to contact people thousands of miles away. Once you put things in print or in video form and you can share that then the distance in which that information can be shared is really endless. So you can go mail the internet but one way or another we have the ability to share global communication.
The impacts of communication technology. Well, the positive impacts let’s look at digital cameras allows you to edit and print only the pictures you like. When I was young You might know that you had some shots that weren’t so good in fact. I knew for sure that there was some on there that I immediately Jowell just like you do with your digital camera. So you take another picture because you know well that one. I had my eyes closed or she had her eyes closed. Someone was being goofy or beat so in your digital camera you just delete it right.
Only those pictures you like and you don’t have to pay for those things that you know you don’t want. The negative impact of the same technology is that now you have a digital form of imagery and you post it online. Perhaps to share with family or friends is now accessible to anybody. Those people can now take your information. They can use it to their own benefit and maybe it’s plagiarism or maybe it’s just taking your pictures and manipulating them in a way you’re not so interested in. So again record some things that you can think of some forms of communication technology that have both positive and negative impacts.
I’ll give you more examples than you see on the side here. Agricultural technology produces plants and animals for food, fiber, and fuel. So examples here are irrigation food preservation weed and insect control and both deal. I said with living things, with plants, animals, and people so some more examples of the bio-related or agricultural technologies in order to give you food. For thought for your paper, we have to come up with examples in positive and negative impacts would be pharmaceuticals. So that’s the drug industry artificial limbs that would be like the bit bionics that you see here genetic engineering.
which is the manipulation of genes and farmers might be real familiar with this because they want to be able to produce maybe the largest animal, the largest heifer because of the more weight of the cow. If it’s good meat than the more money they bring in or hydroponics which is creating plants without the need for soil you just have an artificial environment where the plant, of course, needs water.
There are imaging devices as they related biotechnology x-rays would be an example of that cardiovascular device those are like maybe artificial implants that help a faulty heart valve to continue going in and out but it is a bio-related technology in the medical field. So some food for thought my example for you by related technologies that have possibly negative impacts would be in the health field health-related technology will, of course, improve the quality of life with vitamins, vaccines, medications but then the negative impact of that same technology is that some side effects of some medications will occur like nausea shortness of breath.
when I was young there were people or kids in my high school that had deformed limbs like hands that that nearly came out of the arm socket and there were, I’m going to guess about a dozen of these kids that had deformed limbs in my school and what had happened is when my mother was of childbearing age there was a new drug out in the market the FDA had approved because they thought it was safe and it wasn’t until these children started to be born that they saw a common problem and had to seek out the source of that problem and it was his drug to prevent nausea for the expecting mothers and of course that drug was quickly taken off the market
After they saw what horrible effects that this drug was causing and a positive and negative impact for agricultural technology my example is fertilizers the advantage of positive impact is probably kind of obvious it helps the plants to produce more food per acre and the negative impact is that they find their way into groundwater which of course pollutes that drinking water.
Medical technology a greatly changing field right now medical technology creates tools to treat disease and injury examples of medical technology are lasers prosthesis. Those are your artificial limbs ultrasounds medications a positive impact of technology on the medical field is x-rays. For example, the x-ray is one of the most developed parts of medical technology. It finds the injury very easy.
Environmental technology environmental technology creates tools to minimize the effect of technology on the development of living things. So it’s sort of like reducing our impact on our earth as we come up with more ideas of making our lives more convenient. So examples would be hybrid vehicles well cars and automobiles have been an awesome invention. We’re very, of course,e used to them now but the resulting consequence is the air pollution and the depletion of non-renewable resources in the form of fuel.
So hybrid vehicles help us to reduce our use of those fossil fuels. There’s conservation which is simply the reduction of use and waste management which when you think about it. It’s how we can reuse that water if that is not an infinite resource and some people kind of forget that water’s not something that is in abundant supply for the whole world.
So all of those things are considered in environmental technology the positive and negative impact of environmental technology. In my example it is recycling the positive impact of recycling is somewhat obvious. I guess it improves water and air quality the negative impact is that the disposal of the ozone layer
